Clerk Auditor - Marriage License Search

Do you need a copy of a marriage license? Weber County maintains the original of every marriage license issued by the County since 1887. Marriage license records within 75 years old are considered vital records under Utah State Code (§26B-8-125-5(c)). You may receive a copy of the record if you are:

  • a subject of the record (either spouse listed on the marriage license)
  • an immediate family member of the subject (spouse, child, parent, sibling, grandparent, or grandchild)
  • the guardian of the subject
  • a designated legal representative of the subject
  • performing official purposes of a public health authority or a state, local, or federal governmental agency
  • providing a certified copy of an order of a court of record specifying the record to be examined or copied

When you request the record, you will need to provide evidence that you are authorized to receive a copy of the record. Typically this means providing a photo ID, plus any additional documents to establish your relationship to the subject of the record, or your authority associated with an authorized agency. Use the link below to go to the request form.

Marriage records older than 75 years are public records and do not require special conditions to receive a copy.

If you need a copy of the license, please read the following:

There are three levels of marriage license information:

  • Certified Copy $9.00

This is an official legal document, certified with a stamp and seal by the Weber County Clerk/Auditor’s Office, and can be used for any legal purpose as if it were the original. This is typically used for legal name changes, insurance, and other legal purposes. You may either order a certified copy online, or come into our office. Once you find the license, click the button “Order Certified Copy.”

  • Regular Copy $2.00

This is an unofficial copy of the marriage license. While it is a duplicate of the marriage license, it does not have the Weber County stamp and seal verifying its authenticity. This is typically used for historical, genealogical or keepsake purposes. You may either print a copy of the marriage license image yourself, or come into our office. We do not currently offer online ordering for regular copies.

  • Marriage Data Typically free (there may be a charge for a larger volume of data).

This is simply a record of information on the license, and not an image of the license itself. It often includes the names of the people who were married, and the date of the wedding. This is typically used to verify genealogical data. You may look up the marriage license data through our database for free.

Important Notes:

If you cannot find the license you are looking for, it is possible that it was not issued by Weber County. If you are not sure where the license was issued, you may contact other counties in Utah to see if they have a record of the marriage. Or, you may check the Western States Marriage Records Index.

If you still cannot locate your license, please contact the Clerk/Auditor's office at 399-8400.
